Ryu

Ryu (リュウ Ryū) is the main protagonist of the Ryu Trilogy. He spent most of the series traveling to various parts of the prehistoric world, accompanied by Ran and her brother Don searching for his mother.

History

Ryu was born a white-skin, which was considered a sign of bad omen during his time. His mother, Esta, was forced by her tribe, the Big Horn Tribe to abandon Ryu and sacrifice him to the man-eating Tyrannosaurus, Tyranno. Luckily Kitty, a female ape, who had just lost her own child to the Tyranno, found Ryu and raised him as her own. Years have gone by and Ryu, now thirteen years old, eventually grew into a young man with durable strength and agility.

Trivia

• In the Japanese dub, Ryu was voiced by the late Makio Inoue, who co-starred with Kiba's voice actor Gorō Naya in Lupin III as Goemon Ishikawa and Inspector Zenigata respectively.
• In the Italian dub, Ryu's voice actor Massimo Rossi and Ran's voice actress Emanuela Rossi are siblings in real-life.
  • Massimo Rossi also voiced another character created by Shotaro Ishinomori, Joe Shimamura/009, in the 1979 adaptation of Cyborg 009 and the movie Legend of the Super Galaxy.
• Ryu's circumstance of being raised as a feral child by his ape mother, Kitty, is somewhat reminiscenct of Tarzan, the titular protagonist of the novel Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
