Giant Lizards (大トカゲ Ōtokage) are recurring creatures that appeared in Genshi Shonen Ryu. In the anime, they are horned quadrupedal beasts. While trying to evade Taka and his men, Ryu and his friends decided to rest near the river where they spotted a cave nearby. Seeing it as an ideal hiding spot, Ryu decided to explore it beforehand to see if there are any hostile creatures living inside. Ryu then encountered a pack of these Giant Lizards inside, but was able to smoke them out by lighting a bonfire near the cave's entrance.
Giant Lizards also appear in the Genshi Shonen Ryu manga, where they appeared as bipedal creatures that possess some degree of intelligence, capable of understanding humans. Initially there were a pair of these monsters, using Tekedon as bait to capture Ryu and his group. Their plan failed and Kiba managed to kill one of them with his spear. This prompted the surviving Lizard to continually stalk Ryu and his group; he would later join Taka's group to hunt Ryu together. In addition to its remarkable ability to strategically plan traps, the Giant Lizard showed resistance to cold of the mountains, the ability to camouflage in its surroundings and, above all, the ability to communicate telepathically with humans. During the group's final confrontation, the Giant Lizard was incinerated by Ryu's newly acquired laser pistol.
